Special Materials Or Requirements
If your roof replacement requires anything special, its going to slow the process down.
Things like needing specific materials to preserve historic value, different materials or installation processes for especially unique architecture or roof shapes, as well as even extra-tall homes or those with especially steep and tall angles will increase the length of time to install.
Roofs like that require special scaffolding or safety equipment and contribute to a longer completion time no matter how large or small the structure may be.
Roof Shingles Are Not Lying Flat
The shingles on your roof serve a dual purpose. They give the roof a finished look, while forming a protective seal. Lumpy, bumpy or curling shingles that do not lie flat can be problematic, but dont hire a new roofer yet. The extent of the problem depends upon many factors, including the age of the roof, the outdoor temperature and the overall condition of the roof. In some cases, the shingles will almost magically fix themselves, but in other cases, costly repairs might be necessary.
Shut Off The Water Valve To Your Evaporative/swamp Cooler
If you have an evaporative cooler, even if you dont use it, tell the roofing people where the shut off valve is.
For those of you who dont know what evap coolers are, theyre for dry climates and are similar to air conditioners except theyre less effective and make the air really humid. Thats not the actual description, but thats my version. Theyre very common in Phoenix because theyre generally cheaper to run.
Our evaporative cooler is a piece of junk and we dont use it. When the roofers showed up, they didnt mention the evap and we forgot to ask. Unfortunately for me, in order to move the evap to replace the roof, they needed to shut off the water valve to it. Instead of finding the valve , they turned off the water all day.
And no, turning off the water for the entire day is not common, which I found out after going from 7 AM to 6 PM without any water. Plans of getting any laundry done? Erased! Plans of washing my hands, ever? Thank goodness for hand sanitizer
If you dont have an evaporative cooler, you are so lucky. For my fellow dry-climate folks with evaps, show your roofers where the evaporative cooler shut-off valve is . If you have to be home , you should not be without water!

We Can Help With Your New Roof Installation

So How Long Will A Roof Installation Take
Though its impossible to say without actually inspecting a roof, this guide should help you figure out what factors relate to your installation and what a roofing company will need to do to complete it.
Most residential installations on average-sized homes can take roofers anywhere from one to three days however, with any of these other factors contributing, that could change.
Time for commercial buildings must first look at size as some commercial installations are huge, then look at things like type of materials and the complexity of the installation process for those materials.
For the most accurate time estimate, ask your roofer when they come to do a complete work estimate of your roof!

The Most Important Thing To Remember: Dont Be There During A Roof Replacement
As you can see, lots of weird and unexpected things can happen when you get a new roof. If you only take away one thing, just remember to flee your house when you get a new roof. Even if you dont put up trash bags to catch the dirt, if you dont care about losing water, or even if a guy falls through your roof, do leave your house.
I like to find a silver lining in everything, so even though this post was basically weird things that happened to me during a roof replacement, in the end, we are getting a new roof. We ended up getting it sooner than anticipated, too, thanks to a terrible monsoon storm that tore shingles off our roof . We are lucky to have extra money to pay for the roof now, instead of letting the roof get worse.
But I have made a note to myself: only homes with new roofs in the future!
Have you ever experienced a roof replacement, or have you recently gone through getting a new roof? What were your experiences like?

Complexity Of The Roof Design
A flat roof or a simple pitched roof are straightforward roof replacement designs that involve fewer angles, meaning the installations will be easier, and faster to do.
Structures that have more complicated roof designs with lots of angles, corners, and protrusions will take longer because each of those areas needs extra attention to ensure the materials are properly installed and the installation is waterproof in those high-susceptibility areas.

New Shingles Not Sealing Down
Standard asphalt shingles feature an adhesive strip that softens during warm weather, especially when the suns rays hit the roof directly. When the shingles heat up, they become flexible and the adhesive bonds the shingles in place. Before new shingles seal down, they can look a little lumpy and uneven, but once the roof gets hot enough, they should soften, flatten and form a permanent seal. Sometimes this problem is more apparent on north-facing roof slopes that dont heat up sufficiently for the shingles to seal until summer. Usually this isnt a major issue, but if you live in an area that is very windy, your roofer can apply temporary adhesive to prevent the wind from catching the edge of the unsealed shingles and blowing them off.
A Basic Example Of A Roof Replacement Timeframe
To bring you a bit closer to the process, lets use a real-life example of how long it would take to replace a roof. In this case, well take a roof surface of 100 sq. ft., with asphalt shingles and a roofing crew of five people. In ideal conditions, this process would last up to four or five days. Weather conditions and the availability of materials can impact the timeframe.
Of course, this is just a rough estimate you can keep as a frame of reference. No two roofing projects are identical. The best way to determine the specifics of your roof replacement is to hire a licensed roofing contractor. Experienced roofing contractors can provide you with a quick and accurate estimate of how long the project will take.

Protecting Deck And Preventing Leakages
- Before the contractor can install the shingles, they will put at least one layer of material to help protect the deck. There are some high-risk areas on the roof that must be protected with leak barriers. So it is very important that your contractor installs these barriers properly to protect your new system.
Can You Leave Your Pets In The House During A Roof Replacement
Can you? Yes. Should you? I dont think so. I highly recommend you board your pets.
The only exception I would make is: only board your pets if you know your pets are crazy. My cats are crazy, but they just hide all day and dont actually freak out that much.
My dog, on the other hand? Oh no. I spent 70% of my day bribing her to be quiet, because she just wanted to bark her head off. Shes actually a normal, well-behaved dog 99% of the time, too. However, if someone is in her space, making incredibly loud banging noises, she goes nuts.
Again, dont listen to the people online who said you and your pets will get used to the noise. Your dog will not get used to the noise. And if you have a dog that is in anyway protective of you, forget it. It will bark its head off.

Special Requirements Such As Historical Significance
If your home has a historical significance such as being a historical landmark then it may take much longer to complete the project. Because so much special care has to be given to historical buildings and homes its important that all permits and inspections are done accordingly. If your home is not a historical landmark this will not affect your roof replacement.

How Long Does It Take To Install A New Roof
When looking to install a new roof, you want to know how long the process will take. A roof replacement can be inconvenient, so you want to know how long you will stay out of your house. Every roofing project is unique, meaning its daunting to tell the exact amount of time it will take to install a new roof.
But we can give little advice:
The Smaller the House, The Quicker It Will Take
If you have a small residential home, it is possible to replace the roof in one day. This, of course, can only happen if the materials are delivered on time and barring weather complications.
When replacing a roof, professional roofers will first tear off the old roof, check whether the underlayment is compromised, and then place the new layer of shingles. If the underlayment is compromised, it calls for extra work, additional materials, and completion time extension.
Therefore, though its possible to reroof in a day, some unidentified complications may increase the amount of work.
Classic Roofs Take Longer
Modern roofing styles like colonials, A-frames, Cape Cods, and the steep pitch have a high height, making them more complicated to replace. The higher up and steeper your roof is, the longer it will take to complete the roofing project.

Preparing The Roof Surface
The fastest and easiest way to replace your roof is usually to stick with the same type of material type that is on your house right now. The support and insulation underneath are the same and you likely wont need to add any reinforcement to support the weight of a heavier tile or slate roof. Converting from a cedar roof to a composition or heavy laminate shingle often requires the installation of a solid sheathing or decking over the existing skip sheathing common with most cedar roofs. This need nullifies much of the cost savings of converting to composition.

Roof Replacement: Tear Off Vs Re
When getting a new roof, one key concern for all homeowners is deciding between tear-off and re-roof. Do you want the existing layer of shingles removed first and then install the new roof? Or, do you prefer re-roofing?
Both the options come along with their own pros and cons. Tear off simply means getting rid of the old roof altogether before the new roof can be installed. Most roofing companies would recommend this option because tearing off lays bare the issues that lie hidden under the shingles. After the old or damaged roofing material has been removed, you can find out if there are other issues with your roof and get them fixed before the new roof is installed.
However, tearing off old shingles takes time. Plus, there is the cost factor as this is extra work for roofing professionals.
Re-roofing is not very hard. The process involves installing the new roof over the roof that already exists. This means that the technicians will not need to rip off the existing or old shingles and so the project can be completed in a reduced timeframe. Going this route also means that the overall cost of a new roof installation will come down. But this type of roof replacement has a problem the damages beneath the shingles will remain hidden. If the damage under the shingles spreads or worsens, youll face issues with your roof even after the new roof installation. It will be almost impossible to fix the damages after the installation of another roof.
The Size Of Your Home
It may go without saying that the bigger your home, the bigger the roof, and the longer it will take to install. Not only will an extra-large roof take another day to install, but it will also drive up the cost of materials if you are doing a full replacement. Plus, larger homes often have many complexities like more hips and valleys, which complicate the installation.

How Long Does A Window Repair Take
The time needed for a window repair or replacement depends on how many windows youll need done and how much additional work is required. Each window typically takes about 30 minutes to complete, with time required for trim work and cleanup. In total, most window jobs can be finished within one day.
The Weather On The Day Of Your Roof Replacement
A roof has to be replaced in the right conditions. It cant be replaced in the rain, snow, freezing temperatures, or when its too hot.
If your roof is replaced in any of these conditions I can guarantee its not going to be properly installed. The weather affects both how long itll take to replace your roof and when you can replace it. If you see rain in the forecast your roof replacement is going to be pushed back until your roof is dry enough to work on.
For example, if it rains the day of your roof replacement, it will have to be rescheduled until its dryer out. If it rains during the replacement, theyll tarp your roof to protect your home and pick up where they left off next time its dry enough to be on it. Inclement weather stretches the replacement process out a little bit longer.

How Long Does It Take To Reshingle A Roof
There might be times that some problems for your roof can be easily solved. Missing shingles, unmounted flashings and sometimes lose screws can be easily repaired. However, problems like roof leaks, holes made from hailstorms, dark stains, organic growths, and warped shingles can leave permanent damages to your roof. Whenever permanent damages are incurred on your roof, the best course of action is to replace your roof.
Some people might not like the idea of having to tear off and replace their roof, but it is still a necessity nonetheless. Replacing a roof or re-shingling your roof can be a big investment. Not only are you looking for the right materials for the job, but youre investing in thousands of dollars worth of labor, roofing materials, and equipment. Moreover, youll also need to do your own research on your roofing contractor to ensure that they have a good track record.
But before anything else, we have to first look at how long the reshingling process will take. We have to also look into certain factors that will influence the reshingling process.
