Type Of Roof Design And Cost Of Materials
This factor has a wide range of variables. A deck can be covered with a pavilion, a more solid weather protection. Or it can be covered with a pergola allowing sun and rain while offering cover with a retractable canopy.
The most popular types of pavilion roofs are flat, gable, hip, and skillion .
A flat roof is an easier construction project than the gable and hip roofs, saving also in construction materials. The roof is slightly pitched for water runoff.
However, water collection can still be a problem. The roof must be waterproof and is not really recommended for heavy rain or snow climates.
A gable roof is two equal roof panels pitched at an identical angle. The gable roof itself is easy to build and generally less expensive than more complex roof designs. Water easily flows off.
In high wind locations, the frames need sturdy support and roof braces. Excessive roof overhang is also a factor as very high winds can lift off the roof. High winds can also blow off the roofing materials, such as shingles.
A hip roof is sloped on four sides. While not absolutely indestructible, this roof is more durable than a gable roof, especially in a high wind location.
The hip roof also allows rain and snow to slide off. However, hip roofs are more complex in design and, thus, more expensive to build in materials and labor.
This roof is easier to build and uses fewer construction materials. This pitched roof is a good choice in high rain and snow locations.

Raise The Roof By 500 Millimeters
You can raise the patio roof up to 500 millimeters by removing the eaves, fascia, and gutter. After that, cut the rafters back to the wall line.
The back channel is connected to the rafter directly and reinforced. By doing this method, you will have a clean finish that is connected to the wall line.
But, you may also need to install transfer flashings on top to complete the look.
Dont Spend All Your Money On One Cryptocurrency
Perhaps the most important cryptocurrency tip we can impart is not to spend all your money on a single cryptocurrency. By nature, cryptocurrencies are incredibly volatile. This means that the digital currency could be trading impressively well one day, only to crash the next day or only a few hours later. There have been instances in the past where people have lost their entire life savings during a cryptocurrency crash.
You want to try to avoid this happening to you at all costs, which is why its better to split up your investments and buy a variety of different cryptocurrencies. Do your research and choose three cryptocurrencies that you believe are offering the most stability and buy them. Splitting up your investments could maximize your returns or ensure you dont lose too much.

Building A Porch Roof Using Trusses
A planar truss, like the one above, lies in a single plane and is usually used together to form the roof support structure. They are extremely strong and normally constructed off site and made to specific measurements. Therefore, it is very important to ensure your measurements are correct before ordering.Porch roof construction using trusses is much like using basic rafter construction as outlined above with a few exceptions. Trusses definitely expedite the process.
Where Should You Build Your Patio Cover
While the answer to this question seems obvious , there are shade and functional considerations that need to be taken into account. Most patios are typically off the back door but that location may not provide an adequate shaded area. Covered patios are ideal for outdoor living areas, dining areas, built in fireplaces or outdoor kitchens. It is best to consult with a design professional to determine where the maximum amount of shade and functionality can be achieved in your backyard with your new patio cover.
One other major factor in location of any new structure is city building codes and Home Owners Associations restrictions. All cities have certain guidelines pertaining to where an attached or detached structure can be built. In addition to the City requirements, HOAs will have a set of guidelines pertaining to design, finish material and height restrictions among other things. Once again, it is best to consult a design professional that is familiar with your citys requirements and HOA guidelines.

Patio Roof Skylight Ideas
If you choose a solid patio roof design, such as timber-framed, wood-paneled, or metal, then youll have a solid roof covering you. While this is excellent at protecting you from the elements, they also block the light. This can make your patio feel dark on even the brightest of sunny days. The answer to this problem is to add a skylight.
You have a lot of freedom in how you choose to add your skylight. You could have several smaller skylights that distribute light evenly throughout your patio. Or you could have one large skylight that allows a lot of light in one spot. When placing your skylights, consider the length and width of your patio and where the main supporting beams are located
It is always better to install a skylight when you build your roof. There is a much greater margin of error when you try to retrofit a skylight. So if you think you might want one, take the plunge and install it when you build your roof.

Diy: Turning A Concrete Slab Into A Covered Deck
Posted on Published:
Ever thought about turning your concrete slab into a covered deck? Its definitely doable! Here are some thoughts, tips, & photos from our experience!
Well, this post has been a long time coming. We completed our wood deck covering for the front of the house back in the spring of 2017, and published that post at the same time I actually started this project, which was a much larger undertaking! Shockingly to me, that post about turning a cement porch into a wood deck has become one of the most popular posts here at Catz, and Ive had a number of people ask for this post about the back deck. My plan was to publish it last summer, but it ended up being a surprisingly busy season for us, so here I am shooting for this spring!
An idea began to develop, and after sketching it out and doing some research, we decided it was plausible a peaked, 12-foot, clear roof to cover the new deck. It was certainly going to be a little more complicated than a straight, slanted roof, but we thought the potential benefits were worth it. At 12 feet, it would be high enough in the center to feel open and airy, while the clear roofing would let lots of light through during the many, many gray days here in the Pacific Northwest. That was the idea anyway

Installing The Ledger Board
First I removed the 1/4 plywood dressing right below the drip edge and saw a very solid framing 2×4 underneath, perfect for attaching the ledger board, which attaches the cover to the roof frame. The local building code required a 2×6 ledger board, which meant I had to saw off two inches of wood from the top of the bay windows box. Next, I pre-drilled 1/8 holes, 6 inches apart, in the ledger board, because it was treated lumber and the deck screws would need a little help getting started. After attaching the ledger board with 4 decking screws, I used a large staple gun to staple the phone, internet, and cable lines to it, on the inside toward the house, to better protect them from the weather.

Prep House For New Roof Framing
If you install a slanted roof over your deck, your deck roof rafters will have to attach to your existing roof rafters or trusses. To do this, youll have to remove a section of existing roofing materials and sheathing, plus soffit, fascia, and any gutters that are in the way.
If your new deck roof connects to a flat, vertical face such as a homes exterior wall, youll need a ledger board fastened to a rim joist. Youll need to remove the siding to fasten the ledger. Once in place, the ledger can support beams or joists that will support rafters or trusses for gable or hip roof construction.
When installing the ledger board, youll need to put flashing over the top edge of the board. This flashing should go up and under your siding. You should use an adhesive to affix it to the sheathing beneath the siding.
Youll need to bend the flashing to sit flush over the top ledger board edge. The flashing should cover the top half of the ledger board. Once the flashing is installed, the rafters will sit on top of the flashing.
Building A Patio Cover
Overview: The new patio cover will be built using Western Red Cedar 4×6 posts, 4×6 beams, and 2×6 rafters . The roof will be constructed using Multi-Core Galvalume metal roofing. The posts will be attached to the slab using galvanized post anchors and the rafters will be attached to the beams using various straps, ties, and joist hangers.
Free-Standing Patio Cover Plans
Assumptions: A concrete patio slab is already in place with footings capable of supporting the load of the new patio cover . The footings are not shown in this example, since they vary considerably depending on your location and soil composition.
The dimensions indicated in these drawings of the existing structure are for example only. Your existing structure will enfluence your patio cover design and make it distinctive and unique.
Front Elevation
Since this patio cover design has supporting posts located close to the existing structure, I tried to position the patio cover and slab, so that the posts were not located directly in front of windows and doors.
Side Elevation
This patio cover plan example uses galvanized metal as the roofing material. You can alternatively use shingles as roofing material, providing the roof pitch on your patio cover falls within the shingle manufacturer’s specifications. This patio cover on mycarpentry.com provides an example of a shingle roof design.
