Red Roof Inn Pet Friendly Review For Pet Parents
Many pet parents choose the pet friendly Red Roof Inn because pets stay free. It is also an inexpensive place to stay while attending a dog show. Although the Red Roof Inn advertises as a pet friendly Inn, you should know where they are falling short.
Gusto, my American Eskimo, and I had the pleasure of attending a dog show in New York. The Red Roof Inn in Cortland was recommended as the closest pet friendly place to stay for the best price.

Our Beautiful Comfortable Hotel Room At La Quinta
The bedroom color scheme was right up my alley, too. It was a chic black & white pattern set against a turquoise feature wall which created a minimalistic, yet relaxing atmosphere.
Our first floor room came with two queen size beds, but we really only used one. I love sleeping with several pillows, so I grabbed two from the second bed and added them to the three I already had on my bed of choice.
Buzz stretched out against my legs and was soon snoring away while I still watched some HGTV on the 32 inch flat screen TV the room came with. By the way both pillows and the mattress were super comfortable. Not too hard and not too soft, just right.
The flooring was a combination of carpet in the bedroom area and tile in the entrance/closet/bathroom area. Perfect for Buzzs raw food dinner and breakfast. The only downside was the slippery surface which caused Buzzs food dish to end up in the bathroom
We also had a three drawer dresser, a mini fridge, microwave, in-room coffee maker, alarm clock, desk area, and a very decent closet space behind sliding doors holding an ironing board and iron. The bathroom door facing the bedroom also featured a full length mirror.
The bathroom itself felt spa-like and came with plenty of towels, a hair dryer, Pantene shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, and two massage soap bars. The shower featured a wall-mounted massage shower head with excellent water pressure and instant hot water.

Red Roof Inn is a nice option if you are trying to keep to a budget, but are aware of some of the issues that can come up with budget hotels.
There are certain hotel chains we avoid. Unfortunately everyone has a few bad travel stories to share!
We felt like Red Roof Inn Tupelo was clean and secure. I liked the fun pet travel tips displayed.
Boomer looks like hes ready to be done for the day and catch some shut-eye.
I have to say for the price-point, this hotel had a lot of updates including the flat screen TV on the wall and wood flooring. That just gives a clean feel to any hotel room!
Our restroom was clean, roomy and had a full bath, rather than the old-style half bath with a sink outside the door.
One thing we look for with any hotel is a complementary breakfast! If you have followed the blog for a while, you know this is a big travel savings.
In the end, eating out is a huge travel expense. Any time you can get away with making your own meals or eating a free breakfast at the hotel, go for it.
Often its better for us just to spend a few extra dollars on a hotel with breakfast, rather than choose the budget hotel we will be hurrying out of to go spend $20-$30 on a breakfast and tip!

Outdoor Space At The La Quinta Hotel
The exterior of the hotel was dog-friendly enough and featured a doggie poop station. Unfortunately, some of the grassy areas in the parking lot did not allow dogs and there were way too many poop landmines in my opinion. I just dont understand why people cant pick up after their dogs, especially when theres a doggie poop station close by.
We did walk by an exterior pool, but obviously it wasnt pool season quite yet. I looked it up and read that its open from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend.
Red Roof Inn Kicked Me Out Because My Dog Is A Pit Bull Is This Normal
TLDR: I got kicked out mid-stay from a Red Roof Inn in Durham, NC because my dog is a pit bull. Be sure to call ahead — some Red Roofs have secret breed bans!
I’m not trying to start a discussion on pit bulls themselves, I just want to give other travelers a heads-up about my experience.
I’ve been traveling for work the last year, and because I’m with my pit bull Sox, I stick to pet-friendly places — AirBnbs that allow dogs, and failing that, Red Roof Inns because they’re the only chain that doesn’t charge extra for pets.
A few months ago, the Red Roof in Durham NC kicked me out in the middle of my stay when a staff person saw me walking with my pit bull on the grounds. He came up to me brusquely, and asked if my dog was registered. I said yeah, because, that’s the check-in procedure there.
Next time I was in the lobby for coffee, I was flanked by front desk staff staring me down judgmentally. They told me they don’t allow pit bulls here. I said, no one told me that.
Back up in my room, I got a call from the hotel manager with their lawyer on the line, kicking me out. The manager said, “we have children and families here” and that my dog was a danger to them. No behavior issues, no signs posted, nothing on their website — they just kicked me out.
I complained to Red Roof corporate, which led to this bizarre email exchange with a VP there, who tried to convince me that pit bulls are banned in Durham.

You Stay Happy Pets Stay Free
Our room was on the second floor and had to use the stairs. KORU BEAR was able to handle the open style stairs, and the corridor was wide enough for him and dog dad to walk.
Our room is small but enough to fit a stay necessities like a queen size bed, a desk, TV, refrigerator and an open closet next to the bed. We are surprised how the room furnishings were upgraded almost like a Red Rood Plus room. We are so happy that the flooring choice is laminated wood and the room was clean.
There was a small pet-relief area located by the parking lot. KORU BEAR was unsure of the fake grass. It was maintained, and theres a bench right next to the trash bin.
