To Leave Your Cat Or Not To Leave Your Cat
Whether or not you leave your cat alone in your hotel room or rental is a matter of personal comfort and preference. If your cat is nervous, I wouldnt recommend leaving her alone in your room until shes settled. Otherwise, I think its okay as long as you have the Do Not Disturb sign on your door.
If you arent comfortable leaving your cat alone in your room but cant take her with you wherever youre going, another option is to keep her secluded in her carrier or the hotel room bathroom. If you opt for the carrier route, we recommend a larger one that has plenty of room for a litter box and for your cat to move around and be comfortable.
Be sure to check the hotels rules though too because some of them dont allow for pets to be left in the room unattended.
If your cat tends to vocalize loudly when left alone and/or stressed, you shouldnt leave her alone in the room. Everybody has a hotel stay experience that involves a neighbor or nearby guest being loud and obnoxious and disturbing their stay. Crying pets can be just as disruptive as loud humans. You dont want to disturb any other guests, nor do you want another guest to call and complain about your kitty.
This Is For The Red Roof Inn That Isin Dalton Ga Filthy
This is for the Red Roof Inn that is in Dalton, GA. The service people were great. Otherwise, I was shocked trying to turn on a broken lamp. The plug snapped when I tried to plug in my phone. The room was clean on the surface, but I sprayed and cleaned with disinfectant anyway. There was a cockroach in the room. The floors were filthy. After walking around on the floor I took a shower and my feet were very dirty. There was no Covid cleaning on the floor. It was dusty and we found a baby bottle in the corner. There was a smell that indicated no disinfectant had been used, especially on the floor. The TV had static lines on it so it was hard to view. The beds were clean and slept well. The owners of this Red Roof Inn should have an inspection as they are not giving employees the right equipment or time to properly clean. Also it is on them that the electrical plug and lamp shocked me. Not an employee issue, this is an OWNER ISSUE.
Red Roof Inn Kicked Me Out Because My Dog Is A Pit Bull Is This Normal
TLDR: I got kicked out mid-stay from a Red Roof Inn in Durham, NC because my dog is a pit bull. Be sure to call ahead â some Red Roofs have secret breed bans!
Iâm not trying to start a discussion on pit bulls themselves, I just want to give other travelers a heads-up about my experience.
Iâve been traveling for work the last year, and because Iâm with my pit bull Sox, I stick to pet-friendly places â AirBnbs that allow dogs, and failing that, Red Roof Inns because theyâre the only chain that doesnât charge extra for pets.
A few months ago, the Red Roof in Durham NC kicked me out in the middle of my stay when a staff person saw me walking with my pit bull on the grounds. He came up to me brusquely, and asked if my dog was registered. I said yeah, because, thatâs the check-in procedure there.
Next time I was in the lobby for coffee, I was flanked by front desk staff staring me down judgmentally. They told me they donât allow pit bulls here. I said, no one told me that.
Back up in my room, I got a call from the hotel manager with their lawyer on the line, kicking me out. The manager said, âwe have children and families hereâ and that my dog was a danger to them. No behavior issues, no signs posted, nothing on their website â they just kicked me out.
I complained to Red Roof corporate, which led to this bizarre email exchange with a VP there, who tried to convince me that pit bulls are banned in Durham.

Wed been driving two days to make our way from the Outer Banks back to Michigan. Wed left BB with my sister in Ypsilanti, my vacation home review in the OBX, sadly, didnt allow pets so BB wasnt able to join us. However, as soon as we picked him up we headed to Red Roof Inn because he deserves a little vacation as well. Plus, we really needed a break from all the driving so an overnight in Ann Arbor worked for us.
The great thing about Red Roof Inn is that I know they always take pets and never charge an extra pet fee. To experience pet travel plus Red Roof Inn they invited us to stay with them so we could share our experience with you.
We stayed at a Red Roof Plus in Ann Arbor, MI. The location is very convenient to the US23 and the Universty of Michigan. The hotel was easy to find and check-in went off without a hitch. The lobby was clean and bright and complete with a coffee stand to grab a cup of joe to go.
Our king room had a fridge, microwave, safe, excellent desk/work area, large tv, and a small bathroom.The work area was perfect for trying to get caught up on work. The wrap around desk is great for spreading out all my gadgets and notebooks.
La Quinta Inns & Suites
Almost all La Quinta Inns & Suites also cater to our canine and feline buddies. These pet-friendly hotels are slightly nicer than the Motel 6 and Red Roof Inn chains, but also come with a slightly higher price tag. Their pet policy is similar to other cat and dog-friendly hotels as well. Youre allowed up to two animals per room and youll need to sign a Pet Policy Agreement before you and your furry friend settle in.

Clean Up After Your Cat
Yes, housekeeping is there to clean your room after you checkout, but you really shouldnt leave a dirty litter box and litter mess behind for them. We dont want to give hotels and other accommodations any reason to change their mind about their cat-friendly rules. In fact, we want to do the opposite so that more hotels and rentals will begin to allow cats. This will only happen if we are responsible and considerate guests.
Whenever we road trip with our cats, I always pack a disposable litter box, a big trash bag, a hand broom, plastic grocery bags, and a litter scoop. Whenever I scoop the box, I do it into a grocery bag, then tie it off before putting in the trash. When we check out, I put the litter box into a big trash bag and take it out to the dumpster. I also sweep up any stray litter that got tossed around in the bathroom. This should be common courtesy.
