Door Knocking Or Canvassing

Door knocking /canvassing is the most popular method of generating roofing leads offline. It is an effective strategy that needs discipline and focus. There is nothing that can override face to face meetings. The most common practice is to canvass the whole region after a storm has hit it. You know property owners who qualify for an insurance settlement. The only downside is that most homeowners will not do business with a roofer who knocks on their homes.

Increase Your Website Conversion Rate With A Redesign

One of the best low-cost ways to get more leads is to increase your websites conversion rate with a website redesign.

Heres the truth of it: Yes, a good website can be expensive. However, the return youll get will eclipse the up-front cost.

Ill give you an example. A roofing contractor in the Washington, DC area wanted more roofing leads at a lower cost. After looking at all the options, our specialists discovered a few problems with his website design that hindered quality lead growth.

We had two options: Spend less up-front by ignoring the website issues and going after cheaper roofing leads via pay-per-lead services, or invest in a website redesign to target higher-paying jobs and bump the conversion rate.

Many roofing contractors would go after the PPC and pay-per-lead strategy that guarantees more leads and costs less up-front. Heres the problem most roofing contractors face when they choose that optionsure, theyll get more leads at a lower cost, but you cant control what kind of leads you get.

Ill put it this way. Lets assume your website gets 2,000 visits per month, has a visit-to-lead conversion rate of 2%, and has a lead-to-sale close rate of 25%.

Now, lets see the outcome of taking the pay-per-lead route:

Math wins.

The roofing contractor took our advice and agreed to put his budget into a website redesign.

Guess what happened?

JUST from the website redesign, they saw:

Q: How Do I Promote My Roofing Company Online

Calculate Materials Labor And Overhead

How to Get More Roofing Jobs with Just One Question

Now you need to find the costs of your other materials as well as labor and overhead. When you first learned how to bid a roofing job, its likely that you neglected several key costs, including a portion of rental costs or insurance costs. This list will help you find those missing costs.

First, before you start calculating your materials and labor, refamiliarize yourself with any relevant building codes, because they can significantly impact your calculations. For example, some municipalities require you to use more than four nails to secure shingles. Others require an ice and water protector. It all depends on the location of the home.

Once youre ready, calculate each material youll need:

  • Nails: If youre using IKOs Cambridge® shingles, youll use approximately 240 nails per square, or 360 nails per square when installing by the High Wind Application Procedure. Our shingles are larger than many brands, and along with their larger exposure, theyll need fewer nails than most others, which is a great way to cut costs. If youre using another shingle with a smaller size and exposure, and consequently less coverage, youll likely need to use more nails. You can keep track of how many nail boxes you use on each unique job, which will help you come up with more exact estimates for your future bids.
  • Vents: For some jobs, you can keep the vents as is, or reuse them, but not always.

    What Is A Roofing Bid

A roofing bid, also known as a quote, is a professional document that shows your client the cost and pricing breakdown of their roofing project before they hire you. Roofing quotes include the services your company will provide your clients information, how much each service will cost, additional service notes, and important terms and conditions. Quotes must be approved by the client, and cannot change once agreed upon between the service provider and the customer.

How To Zig When Everyone Is Zagging

How to get roofing jobs from insurance companies

Let’s start with the basics… your “offer”. âNothing in the world can be bought until an offer is made. It’s the entry point to your business. Every business transaction starts with an offer being made to the prospect. For commercial roofing contractors, 99% out of the time the offer goes something like “Call Us For A Free Estimate”. It’s a pretty simple offer, and it’s worked well for a long time. If they accept that offer, then the next offer you get to make is your proposal. The only problem… Is that the offer “Call Us For A Free Estimate” is as old as time. The appeal has worn off. It just doesn’t get the building owner all that excited or motivated to reach out to you. It also doesn’t help that every roofer in town has the same exact offer.

Make sure anybody who stops by your booth gets a freebie they will consider valuable. Perhaps you could provide educational content on residential roof repairs and home improvement. Finally, ensure you properly follow up with anyone you meet.

    What Is Roofing Markup

Youris the amount you add to the cost of your services to realize a profit. Markup is usually expressed as a percentage. The formula is Profit/Cost*100.

The markup percentage you choose to add to your break-even cost price will depend on your desired profit margin. That is, how much profit you want to earn for this job. The formula to determine your margin is Profit/Sales*100.

A general guideline for pricing roofing jobs is to aim for a margin above the industry average of 6%.

Sign Up With Crm Right Away

CRM is a customer relationship management platform. You have to have it. Why? To avoid situations like this. Hey, whats up man?Hey Dan, did you order that special order we talk about two weeks ago? What order? I thought, yeah we talked about it, but I didnt realize you wanted me to order it.What do you mean I didnt tell you. We were sitting right there at the bar and I told you to order it. You said you were going to do it tomorrow. What do you mean you dont remember? No, no, no, no, no, no. Listen, listen, listen. If you told me to order it, I would order it. Wed been drinking and I mean we discussed it, I remember talking about it, but I didnt understand you wanted me to order it, okay?So what am I supposed to tell my customer now?Ill order it right now. Okay, bye.

There are a lot of CRMs for roofing companies on the market and this is where I want to talk about my friends at JobNimbus, theyre also the sponsor of this video. I recently called them and said, Hey guys, Im doing this series of videos for roofing contractors to help them to start and scale their business, and JobNimbus was like, Absolutely, we would love to partner up with you guys. Long story short, theyre sponsoring this video, and are probably going to do a few more in the future. For years Ive been using JobNimbus. I burned myself with the other two CRMs. JobNimbus is one of the cheapest CRMs on the market. I dont know anything the platform cannot do. Its only $25 per user.

How To Differentiate Your Roofing Bid So You Can Win More Jobs

How to Get More Roofing Jobs with Just One Question

Dont forget to differentiate your bid from the competition by doing the following:

    • Include photos of the roof and problem areas and a note on how you plan to fix the problem. The idea here is to clearly present the problem and position your business as the one with the solution. Jobber lets you include line item images in your quotes to help you stand out. No more emailed attachments.
    • Mention if there are any warranties on materials
    • Incorporate testimonials that act as social proof and tell the client, Hey, this business is the business for the job.
    • Frame the cost of the roofing job as an investment. Yes, instead of using the word price or cost literally use the word investment.
    • Send the bid via email or text message so that your clients can easily find it. Paper bids are easy to misplace or mix up with other documents.
    • Always, always follow-up after sending the quote. Many quotes are lost simply because the client forgot to got busy.

You can create your bid using Excel or Word. But these two methods are time-consuming and prone to error. Thats why youre probably better off using quoting software such as Jobber.

Pay Per Click Aka Search Engine Marketing

Here are some pay per click stats that will blow you away:

    • Businesses make an average of $2 in income for every $1 they spend in
    • On average, 41% of clicks go to the top 3 paid ads on the search results page.
    • 85% of people use the internet to find local businesses.
    • PPC visitors are 50% more likely to purchase something than organic visitors.

Even with the rising costs, pay per click is one of the most effective and fastest ways to start generating leads for your business. You can start seeing leads within a week if you set up your campaign correctly.

In the roofing space, you can generate both residential and commercial leads for your business using pay per click. Adwords will consist of the majority of your pay-per-click efforts but you should not ignore Bing Ads.

    Get Your Business Out There

This one is probably the weakest tip I can give you, but I believe its also one of the strongest. Dont be shy and go all in. I see these mistakes all the time. When small business owners come to me, they just started maybe a year or two ago and theyre just shy. They are afraid to change their title on their Facebook what they do now. They are afraid to tell their friends theyve started a business. They are afraid. They kind of always have a Plan B. If you want to have success right there in the beginning, you have to jump all in. Your closest friends, your closest family are not going to give you a lot of business, but when you make a statement that thats what you do, people will start noticing.

For example, we have a really big Russian community in Minneapolis. I have a lot of realtors who work with me and there is a lot of Russian guys who can install siding and the roofing. But somehow Ive been connecting with them and they started giving me a lot of business. Why? Because I went all in. I make public statements and everybody knows me as a roofer now. If I would be shy, I would not grow fast in the first year. You have to tell people your story, why you do what you do, and its very, very important. If you have a Plan B, Plan A is not going to happen.

    Calculate The Number Of Ground

Take the external dimensions of the house and divide it by 100.

For example, if youre working on a house that is 30 ft. x 60 ft., then the entire area is 1800 square feet . Divide that number by 100 to arrive at 18 ground-level squares.

This is just the flat area. Most homes are pitched, and youll have to account for that in the next step.

    Licenses Certifications And Registrations

How To Get Commercial Roofing Jobs – Strategies for Insurance Restoration

Roofers may obtain specific certification to qualify for additional work opportunities or greater pay.

The National Roofing Contractors Association offers certification for experienced roofers. Experienced roofers may become certified in various roofing systems, such as thermoplastic systems or asphalt shingles. Certification as a roofing foreman is also available for experienced roofers.

Most employers require that roofers complete safety certification that meets Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines, either before or after being hired.

Some employers require roofers to have a driverâs license to enable commuting to different jobsites.

    What Does Your Customer Want

As a roofing business owner or manager, its worth your time to find out the answer to this question. Why? You can spend lots of money on training, equipment, or other resourcesbut it will all be wasted if you direct that time and energy on a factor that doesnt matter to the homeowners you serve.

Instead, invest your roofing companys resources in the right places. Thats right: work smarter, not harder.

What Are The Qualifications To Get A Union Roofing Job

The primary qualifications for getting a union roofing job are joining a union and completing a relevant training program. Many unions offer training in the form of apprenticeships, so other than this, you do not need any specific education or experience to get a union roofing job, although previous experience certainly helps. Unions frequently require pre-employment drug tests and physical exams. Many require you to have a valid driver’s license and the ability to work weekends and holidays as needed. Fulfilling the responsibilities of a union roofing job requires physical stamina, communication skills, and the ability to work on a team.
