- Dont over-tighten or under-tighten. Tighten just enough to compress the rubber gasket to the edge of the screw head, not past it.

Where Do You Screw Metal Roofing
Depending on the manufacturer you can either screw in the high point of a corrugated metal roof the raised rib or the low point where the panel is flush with the surface of the roof sheathing.
Both methods of fastening are fine as long as you follow the directions outlined by the manufacturer of the panel. In both instances, when screwing into the panel, you want the rubber washer to sit snug on the screw hole, but not be too compressed. If you screw to the extent in which the metal gets indented, then youve sunk the screw too far.
Screwing in the low, non-raised part of a tin roof results in a more secure connection. Most of the screw is sunk into the roof sheathing, making it more likely to survive extreme winds. The downside is that moisture such as rain or melting snow will pass right over the screw. If it comes loose or isnt installed properly, moisture will find its way into that screw hole.
Fastening your roofing screws through the raised rib of a metal roof reduces your chance of leaking significantly. Moisture will never flow or pool on top of a rib, thus the chance water finds its way into a loose screw hole on a raised rib is minimal. On the other hand, your screw will not be sunk as far into the roof sheathing which means the panels are not as secured to the roof.
If there isnt any space, such as behind the low of a metal panel, you will have a hard time screwing. Use non-self tapping roofing screws and pre-drill.
How Much Does Metal Roofing Cost
In general, the upfront cost of a metal roof is much higher than the cost of a roof containing asphalt shingles. However, given a metal roofs durability, the overall cost of installing and maintaining it is much lower than needing a total roof replacement every 15 to 20 years.
Here are some of the most common metal roofing materials and how much they cost to purchase and install. The overall prices are calculated for the average American roof size of 1,700 square feet.

Proper Metal Roof Installation Is The Key
While the metal itself used in many roofing products is incredibly durable, a real key to metal roofing longevity is in how the roofing is installed in the first place. The biggest source of potential problems where corrugated metal roofing is concerned has to do not so much with the metal itself, but with the screws or fasteners. Avoid Improperly Tightened Metal Roofing Screws Or Fasteners
It is important to drive or install the screws correctly. This is a really simple procedure, but quite often it is done incorrectly. If you mess this up your roof will leak, so taking the time to correctly fasten the screws is exceptionally important. The screws that you will be using will have a rubber washer with a metal cap. The rubber washer is just a bit smaller than the metal cap. You want to tighten the washer so that it spreads to the edge of the metal cap and not past the metal cap.When you tighten the screw its critical that you dont drive it too far.
Its a natural reaction to exert too much pressure and tighten the screw as much as possible. This will over compress the washer by expanding it too much and breaking the washer. If this happens back out the screw to relieve some of the pressure. If you over-tighten the screws then they might leak and will also need maintenance sooner.
Conversely, it is common to under-tighten the screw. The easiest way to determine if the screw is too loose is to see if you can spin the washer. If the washer spins, then the screw is too loose and should be re-tightened. You will develop a feel for fastening the metal panels correctly, but just pay close attention to ensure that the screws are installed correctly.

Lifting Metal Roof Panels
For lifting any roof sheets ensure you have sufficient numbers of people physically able to lift the roofing sheets, but this depends on the length of the sheets you have ordered. Please note weather coditions must be considered before handling. The longer they are, the more risk there is of bending in the middle, so be aware of this when attempting to lift.
