Corrugated Screw Location For Wall Panels Or Metal Siding
There will be five panel screws and one lap screw per screw line. The lap screw is the screw that sits in the high and it is designed for a light gauge metal to light gauge metal connection. Lap screws are spaced 12 to 18 on center. The panel screws are spaced out so that every third corrugation has a screw including both sides of the panel sidelap. When the corrugated sheeting is 39 wideinstead of 37 wide the screw placement will be slightly different as shown in the diagram below.
We recommend that you use double sided mastic tapeat the panel sidelap for a wall condition also. The mastic tape will make the panel more weathertight. Mastic tape is always used for a metal roofing installation. On a wall application, mastic tape is shown in our installation guide and we do recommend that its used. The reality is many installers choose not to install the mastic tape for wall conditions.
Remove Old Roofing And Repair Any Damage
While it is possible to install a metal roof over old asphalt shingles, a full tear-off of the old roof is highly recommended. Removing the old roof will allow you to inspect the sheathing and flashing and replace any problem areas before moving forward. That way, the sheathing and flashing can be inspected before the new roof goes down, reducing the chance of a leak.
- Start from the top of the roof and remove the old shingles along with the flashing, underlayment and vents.
- Hammer down or pull any large nails that are exposed by the removal.
- Inspect the underlying roof sheathing for damage and make any needed repairs with sealants and roofing adhesive.
- Install a layer of roofing underlayment, including a layer of felt paper or rosin slipsheet, as recommended by the roofing manufacturer. Metal panels expand and contract at different rates than the sheathing, so its important to follow manufacturers guidelines regarding underlayment.

How To Screw Down Ribbed Metal Roofing
For this, you would probably want to use a cordless drill with a clutch unit, which can tighten the fastener without overdoing it. When using the drill, you should set it based on the type of wood you will be using. On a purlin, I would suggest using a twelve or thirteen.

When the screw goes into the high of the sheet, water and dirt will never accumulate behind it. It will just roll right off. This means fewer chances of the screw getting water damage or debris weakening the joint.
