How Do I Fix A Sagging Roof

Caved in Porsche 996 Roof Gets Amazing Paintless Repair ...

The first step in fixing a sagging roof is to identify the cause of the sag. In most cases, a sagging roof is caused either by a broken rafter or roof decking, but in some more severe instances, a damaged or sinking foundation can be the underlying cause of the problem. You will need to get up into your attic and examine the roof carefully in order to discover the underlying cause. Once you have figured out the cause, you will need to determine the best course of action for addressing the damage.

It is best to do all repairs from the top of the roof, which means you will have to tear up shingles and other coverings, as well as the roof decking in some cases. This may not be possible if you notice the sagging roof in the winter when snow is likely to fall, which means you will have to perform the repairs from underneath the roof in the attic. This can be difficult and dangerous, and if at all possible, you should avoid this. Tearing up the shingles and decking can be more costly, but it is safer and more efficient.

How To Install A Headliner

A headliner is the foam-backed cloth covering that is attached by adhesive to the ceiling of your car. It is not unusual for a car headliner to become unattached and cave in if it has been exposed to excessive amounts of moisture or if the car is an older model.

You do not have to hire a professional to come in and fix a saggy or dirty headliner. You can replace it yourself by following these steps for how to install a headliner.

  • Remove the old headliner.
  • Pry off all the trim that surrounds the headliner and holds it in place.
  • Detach and remove all of the seatbelt covers, lights, speakers, visors and clothes hangers. You may also have to remove some of the upper A, B, C pillar panels to get the headliner to drop form the roof area. You may have to unscrew some bolts and/or pry some parts up with a flathead or torx screwdriver.
  • Unclip any clips that are holding the headliner board in place.
  • Slide the headliner board out of the vehicle and set it on a flat work surface. A large table or the floor will do.
  • Remove the material from the car headliner board. It should peel off without much effort.
  • Scrape off any foam that remains stuck on the headliner board with a bristle brush or lightweight sandpaper. Be gentle, so as not to damage the board. The smoother the board surface is, the better your finished headliner replacement will look.
  • Lay the replacement headliner fabric over the headliner board. Spread it out flat and smooth out any folds or wrinkles.
  • Reason For A Car Headliner Repair To Be Needed

Over time, the car lining gets loose and detaches itself from its backing board. We call this process sagging.

When a cars roof lining fails, it either sags or falls from the board in severe cases.

The sagging may be due to:

    • Extreme heat
    • Poor maintenance
    • Old age

Sunroof tops are dangerous for your car. They can leak moisture inside the cars roof. Doing so accelerates the sagging of the lining despite the age of the vehicle.

Argh Some Idiot Decided To Walk On My Car Roof Over The Weekend

    Posted: Mon Aug 23, 2010 10:23 am

Some mouth-breathing imbecile apparently decided it would be a good idea to WALK ON MY CAR!!!! over the weekend. I came out yesterday morning to run some errands, and got in the car without noticing. My first sign that something was wrong was when I pulled out and a pool of water rushed off the back of the car. Then, I tried to open the sun roof–no dice. Ruh-roh. Behold the damages:And if you look closely, you can just make out the footprint of the culprit–a Converse Chuck Taylor, by the look of it:The police came and took a report, but realistically, there’s no way they’re going to catch the jerk who did it. I was thinking about selling/trading in my car soon–there goes my resale value! I guess we’ll see what the insurance adjuster comes back with. The car is ten years old and the bluebook is around $5,000. Anyone know how much it costs to fix a dented roof and hood?

Why Does Your Roof Cave In

This winter, Massachusetts saw over 100 roof collapses . So many residences and business were affected by this that the state government released Roof Collapse Safety Information to the public. Your roof is particularly susceptible to collapse in the winter months. Roof replacement in Westfield, MA can be expensive and in some cases, unavoidable. However, if youre aware of what can cause a roof to cave in, you can take steps to prevent it or have safety measures in place.

    Weight

One of the main reasons behind most roof collapses is weight. During winter, especially during a snow storm, snow can accumulate on the roof and add weight to it. To some extent, your roof can bear that weight but after a while, excessive weight can put a strain on the roofs capacity and eventually lead to a cave-in.

Most roofs can handle about 20 to 25 pounds of weight per square foot but during the worst storm season, when normal dry snow is weighed down by rainwater, the weight can be about three times that amount. Naturally, if you dont want to spend money on roof replacement in Westfield, MA, its wise to take measures to control the load on your roof.

The simplest way to go about it is to use the roof rake and remove snow from the roof. You should be especially careful if theres a storm warning. If the weather station says that there might be a snow storm sometime in the future, its best to keep your roof clear of snow whenever possible.

What Causes A Damaged Car Roof Liner

A car headliner can begin to fall apart for various reasons and can affect the car roof panel replacement cost depending on the extent of the damage and repercussions. Lets see the main reasons why the car roof liner becomes worn down or damaged over time.

    • Age Wear and tear to the liner year in and year out can wreak havoc on the interior of your car. An older car is at a higher risk for developing imperfections, safety issues, and aesthetic concerns, like a sagging headliner.
    • Glue Over time, adhesive, polyurethane, or car glue begins to break down over time, resulting in a damaged headliner and sagging roof liner. If the glue no longer sticks, it can lead to a car roof panel replacement cost.
    • Weather especially if you constantly drive and live in a hot and humid environment, leaving your windows down overnight or while driving can cause excess moisture to pool in the headliners adhesive. This can cause the roof liner to sag much quicker, causing an expensive car roof panel replacement cost.

How to Fix a Sagging Car Roof Lining

Unfortunately, car roof panel damage can occur for any number of reasons the most common being inclement weather or hail storms. Although you may have thought you did everything you were supposed to and kept your car protected, leaving your car outside during a hailstorm will certainly lead to a high car roof panel replacement cost.

Even if you checked your car for dents and inspected the roof after the storm, you may not have noticed any cracks or dings in the roof panel. Just because you didnt see it right away doesnt mean that it is not there and this damage could spread over time.

At this point, your next step should be to call the insurance company to file a hail damage claim and prevent having to pay a high car roof panel replacement cost for weather damage. The only thing you have left to do in this replacement process is to wait for the official car roof panel replacement cost estimate.

Finally, you can get the official estimate for the car roof panel replacement cost and determine if you want to get the procedure done at the local mechanic or dealership.

  • Yes, car roof damage can be repaired by a professional with the proper equipment. Although many think that unitized construction means when a car is damaged in a crash, the entire frame twists beyond repair, but this is not true. With todays frame stretchers and straighteners, unitized construction can successfully be repaired. With those repairs, the roof ripples and damage are taken out. Of course, if a car lands on its roof and crushes down, then theres nothing that can repair that unless the body is in good shape. If the body is in good shape and the roof is crushed, then the same types of decompression straighteners can often reconstruct the roof quite easily.
